Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel, (Philippians 1:27 ESV)
As Christians, we are not called to live any type of life, but a life that is worthy of the gospel. The question to ourselves then is ‘is my lifestyle worthy of the gospel?’
As believers we are to mirror Christ to others in the world. If we claim to be saved by His finished work on the cross and are part of God’s kingdom where we are citizens then our life should be worthy of the gospel.
Citizens of a country or state live according to the laws of the land. As believers, even though we are in this world we are not of it. We are future citizens of Heaven. We cannot live the same way as the non-citizens of heaven. The only way to prove our heavenly citizenship on this world is by living a life that is worthy of the Gospel.
Why is it important to live a life worthy of the gospel?
That is when we are able to bear spiritual fruits.
That is when we display Christ to the world
That is when God is being glorified in us.
For us to be able to stand firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side in the faith for the gospel as Paul said, we have to live a life worthy of the gospel. This is because it is the gospel that unities us to be able to stand firm in spirit and strive together in faith for the gospel with one mind.
Brethren, it is my prayer we live a life that’s worthy of the gospel. Amen.
