Blessed are Those who Hunger and Thirst for Righteousness

By In

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. (Matthew 5:6 ESV)

Every man or woman on earth gets thirsty and hungry at some point. Without food or water we cannot survive for a long time.

The food that we eat and the water that we drink can also be deadly to our body. Taking in junk food everyday and drinking unclean water can cause health problems leading to death.

Good food and clean water is very important for the survival of man.

The bible tell us in 1 Corinthians 15:44 that if there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. Our spirit being also thirst and hunger for things just as our natural body does as well.

Our spirit are hungry and thirsty for 2 things either righteousness or sin. Those that worship God truthfully and spiritually thirst and hunger for righteousness. They long for more of God each and everyday of their lives, to become more like Him and less of themselves. God fills His people with His righteousness, joy, peace, love and spirit. These things give us full satisfaction which cannot be derived from the world or found in the world.

Also, our spirit can also long for sinful things, those that do not know God inwardly thirst and hunger for the passions and the desires of this world. The world fills them will evil things, never gets satisfied and chase after more evil. This is dangerous to the spirit, this junk makes the spirit dead hence unresponsive to God’s salvation. This type of hunger and thirst brings forth death both physical and eternal death i.e hell.

Longing for the things of God leads to life and longing for the things of this world leads to death.

Yes, no one is perfect expect God and we all do sin. Where our longings and desires lies is important. It is my prayer we will long for God and not the evil things of this world. God bless.
