But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace. (Romans 11:6 ESV)
Sometimes, we might find ourselves in a position that we begin to think because we did or didn’t do something we deserve to be blessed by God. This way of thinking has peril consequences because it leads one to think that their actions are prerequisite to receiving the blessings of God, when in actual fact it is only through the grace and finished work of Christ on the cross that we have access freely to the blessings of God.
The unconditional love and blessings we have received from God is not because of who we are or what we have done or what we can do, but because of who He is and how He loves us. Besides this, nothing we will ever do or abstain from could ever be enough to merit the favour of God.
The essence of Grace is receiving what we do not deserve from God but through Christ, God has shown us that mercy to bless us.
However, just because our actions do not determine God’s blessings for us does not mean we should live our lives recklessly for the reason that God rewards us for being faithful to Him – which is also a blessing.
Blessings from God are not earned not by any means but freely received by Grace! Amen.
