Woe to those who call evil good and good evil

By In

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? (Jeremiah 17:9 ESV)

Woe to those who call evil good and good evil,  who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! (Isaiah 5:20 ESV)

Recently, gay marriage was legalised in all the states in the USA and this decision was praised by many world leaders and even some christians.

Thinking of all these made me to realise how wicked the heart of man is? And even beyond the understanding of men.

Now, we live in a world where men and women of this world will find every reason to rationalise sin to make it seem as a moral or good thing to do just to suit their own sinful pleasures.

The world does not understand what morality is because their hearts and minds are darkened by evil. We as believers should not comprise to accept the world’s standards or view of morality. The word of God is our standard that defines what is moral or immoral, and not what the world or philosophers define as morality. The bible warns us of rationalising evil to make it seem good. Proverbs 14:12 says that There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death. It may seem right in the eyes of the world for a man and another man to get married or a woman and another woman to get married, to kill innocent children, mothers and fathers for the pursuit of power and wealth, and to do other detestable things but the end thereof is destruction. Rationalising sin makes it easier to commit but rationalising sin does not convince God or cancel the punishment.

John piper quote on morality “Moral: I call an act of preferring “moral” when it can properly be judged to be right or wrong. In general my preferences for chocolate over vanilla or stripes over checks is not a moral choice. But my preference to be honest rather than to deceive is a moral choice because it can be properly judged right or wrong.

I Will end with John Mcarthur quote “Morality, in and of itself, is a damning thing. Self-righteousness is a damning thing. You’d be better off to be immoral and face the reality of your needs so that you would come to a Savior, than to live under the illusion that because you have a moral code on the outside, all is well on the inside between you and God.” – Reformation vs. Relationship

The bible warns us about calling evil good and good evil. The word woe is a warning and every warning has it own consequences when being breached. Who can face the wrath of God? No one. Therefore let’s call good good and evil evil.
