But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. (Galatians 5:22-23 ESV)
Faithfulness is another fruit of the spirit that is produced in us as believers by the work of the Holy Spirit. Faithfulness can be explained from two different perspectives: God’s faithfulness to mankind and mankind’s faithfulness to God
God’s faithfulness refers to the fact the we can be assured of how firm, constant and honest God’s dependability is because He is an unchanging God. As believers, we can forever trust Him.
Man’s faithfulness to God refers to our firm loyalty to God as believers and our trust in Him. As the saying goes, “A faithful man is full of faith”, therefore a man who is faithful believes in the truth of God as seen in Scriptures.
Therefore if we want to be bear this fruit of faithfulness, we must believe God, and we must trust that He always has our welfare at heart. This helps us live our lives with the assurance that we will receive God’s promised blessings. Beloved, being faithful to God is necessary when His promises seem to be the completely opposite of what we want or desire.
In Hebrews 11, a tall list of people who strongly believed in God’s promises in the Old Testament can be seen. Abraham and Sarah were able to witness the birth of Isaac. Abel’s understanding of God made his sacrifice real and authentic. Noah trusted God’s word about the coming judgment as well as God’s promise to save his family. Rahab trusted God to protect her family when the Israelites attacked. Moses trusted God that his service would bring Israel to the Promised Land. The list goes on and on.
Through all of these, one thing stands out and that is obedience to God. Faithfulness leads to obedience, and obedience brings about God’s great blessings. Proverbs 28:20 tells us that a faithful man will be richly blessed. However, we must understand and realise that being faithful is not always easy. Many obstacles might come our way but we need to be full of faith by standing firm on the Word of God and declaring our freedom.
Beloved, God is faithful, and He desires to bless His children. The Holy Spirit produces in us His faithfulness and as we believe God for Who He says He is and that He will do what He says He will do.
It is my prayer that we all continue to live by faith and grow spiritually, thereby exhibiting the faithfulness He desires. Amen!
