Word for Today

God loved us whiles we were yet sinners

By In

God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8 ESV)

There is no love greater than God’s love when you ponder on this verse. We sinned against Him and  forsook Him. But because He loves us so much and does not want His people to perish, He sent His son Christ Jesus to pay the price for our sins on the cross.

The Trinity-Father, Son and The Holy Spirit all loved us whilst we were yet sinners. The father sent the son to die for us to reconcile us back to Him. His son Jesus Christ died for us by taking upon himself our sins and giving us His righteousness. The Holy Spirit loved us in that He regenerates us, empowers us to overcome the desires of the flesh, be obedient to God’s word, to love God and be in communion with the father, son and the Holy Spirit.

We can see how God the father, son and the Holy Spirit loved us whilst we were yet sinners. This unconditional love that flows through the father to the son and to the Holy Spirit has poured upon us also. The bible says “and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. (Romans 5:5 ESV).”

We cannot love God on our own accord, it is God’s love that He showed us whilst we were yet sinners that has caused us to love Him also.

We live in the world where you are condemned for making few mistakes. Despite all our disobedience and failures of not loving Him, God didn’t condemn us but rather He loved us and through that love, we have been saved.

God loves you just as you are and is willing to save you and transform you to be what He wants you to be. This can only happen if you are receptive to this greater love He has demonstrated to us by repenting of your sins and believing in His beloved son Jesus Christ. Through His act of love on the cross, we are saved.
