For forty years you sustained them in the desert; they lacked nothing, their clothes did not wear out nor did their feet become swollen. (Nehemiah 9:21)
And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times; having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. (2 Corinthians 9:8).
In this message I will be looking at the sustaining Grace of God from the physical perspective.
God’s Grace is here for us to sustain us physically as believers. God knows that for His people to survive on this earth their physical needs has to be met. Therefore He makes provision by His Grace through His son Jesus Christ for all physical needs ranging from food, cloth, shelter and etc for us to be sustained on this earth. This is why Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:25-34 not to be anxious about our needs because our father knows our needs and He will meet them. This is why Paul was confident to say in Philippians 4:19 that the Lord shall supply his needs according to His riches in His son Jesus.
We see a significant evidence of the sustaining Grace of God in Nehemiah 9:21 where the Israelites walked through the desert without lacking anything, neither did their clothes wear out nor their feet got swollen. He knew they will need clothes for them to stay warm in the desert, He knew they will need food for them to be able to survive in the desert and also be of good health to be able to walk, He knew they will need a safe journey so that nothing will hinder them from getting to where He has destined for the Israelites to be and He did provide them with all their needs for them to make it to the promise land. Thus, fulfilling His purpose of bringing them out of captivity into the promise land (Exodus 3:8).
Brethren, God knows all that your needs that has to be met for you to be sustained on this earth and for His will to be done in your life. Therefore, by His Grace He will provide you with all that you need if you will trust in Him and not fear because He has your interest at heart just as He had the people of Israel interest at heart. Also, let us be careful of not mixing wants with needs. God promises us to meet our needs and not wants. He knows our needs better than we do.
