“These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.”John 15:11 ESV
Everyone on earth has the desire to be happy. I am yet to come across someone who does not want to be happy in life. Some people are trying to find happiness with their wealth, others find happiness in another man or woman, others find happiness from their job and others seek for happiness through leisure, holidays or entertainment.
The Bible teaches that happiness is fleeting because it often depends on things outside of ourselves, but true joy is eternal because it is based on our relationship with Jesus Christ, which is itself an everlasting source of joy. (Got Questions)
Let’s pause for a minute. Ask yourself: where does my true source of joy lie? Does it lie in the God or in things of this earth?
It is good to be happy in whatever that we are doing or pursuing and that’s indisputable fact. However, it becomes a problem if our happiness is rooted in that thing. Our source of happiness should be deeply rooted in the joy of knowing Christ and Christ knowing us. The pursuit of God is where our source of joy should lie.
The happiness the world can give us is temporal, it is for a moment but the happiness that we find in the joy of knowing Christ is eternal. This kind of happiness is not dependant on life circumstances but on God so whether in good or bad times we are still happy because His joy is being made full in us.
Brethren, the pursuit of God brings happiness and everlasting joy, therefore let’s make it a priority in our lives to pursue an intimate relationship with God and make sure we do not make the pursuits of things of this world (education, job, marriage and etc) our source of happiness but only God.
