When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. Psalm 56:3 (ESV)
My final year results will be out in few days, any moment i remember that my results will be out soon i freak out a little bit. Sometimes I lay in bed thinking about- what if that happens? what if this happens? We all have what if’s about situations concerning our lives or it could be a what if about the future. Sometimes, these what if’s can complicate our minds and lives making us to fear or be anxious. It is easy for us to say am trusting the Lord in times like these with our lips but truly in our hearts it might not be so. So, in times like these we need to draw strength from the word of God to help trust Him.
Abraham was told by God to sacrifice His son even though it was a test of faith, Moses was appointed by God to rescue the people of Israel out of the wicked hands of Pharaoh, Jonah sent by God to Nineveh a city known for their evil to call out against their evil. David fighting Goliath a giant that is more than 100% taller and bigger than Him.
Being told to sacrifice your own son will not be something easy to do without being anxious or having some fears. Told to go before Pharaoh to tell him to allow the people of Israel go without fearing for your own life. Nahum 3:1-4 gives us a good idea of how wicked the people of Nineveh were. Jonah had every reason to expect that at the very best, he would be mocked and treated as a fool. He might be attacked and killed if he did what the Lord told him to do (bible hub). There is nothing frightening like going to a fight a giant with a stone and a sling (1 Samuel 17:50).
All these events that happened to some of these great men in the bible are not just a big or glorious moments but also a frightening moments as well. In all of these daunting moments these men trusted in God despite any fears they might have. This is something we should learn to do by trusting God in big moments and daunting moments of our lives.
Instead of letting the what if’s of live complicate our minds and our faith in God, we should preach the word to ourselves in times like these. Few scriptures that will help us – Isaiah 41:10, 2 Timothy 1:7, Matthew 6:25-34, Psalm 56:3, Philippians 4:6-7 and many more. We can only fight fear with faith and faith cometh by hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17).
Prayer is another way of combating fear.In times of panic we should learn to pray or cry to God bringing all our troubles and fears before Him because He is a God that loves us and care about us. Prayer helps calms the fears or anxieties we have concerning live situations. Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV) says that; 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Brethren, let’s learn to be like David that in times of fear we will learn to trust Him. God bless you!
